Which unit categories are supported?

Length, mass, temperature, area, volume, time, and data storage cover most everyday conversions, from centimeters to inches and kilograms to pounds to Celsius and Fahrenheit. Each category groups its own set of units, so switching categories also resets which units are shown.

How accurate are the conversions?

Conversions use exact, internationally defined factors rather than rounded shortcuts, and results are shown to up to ten significant digits. That's precise enough for lab work, recipes, or homework — for extremely large or tiny values, the result switches to scientific notation instead of a long string of digits.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The 'convert' library runs as JavaScript inside the page, and the value you type is converted on your own device the moment you finish typing. There's no backend involved, so nothing about what you're converting is recorded or transmitted.

What's the difference between kB, KB, and KiB in the data category?

kB and MB follow the decimal system, where 1 kB equals 1,000 bytes, matching how storage manufacturers usually advertise capacity. KiB and MiB follow the binary system used internally by operating systems, where 1 KiB equals 1,024 bytes — which is why a drive's stated size and the size your computer reports rarely match exactly.

Why did my result show in scientific notation instead of a normal number?

Very large or very small results — beyond about a quadrillion, or smaller than a billionth — switch to scientific notation so the number stays readable instead of showing a long string of zeros. This only affects how extreme values are displayed; the underlying conversion is exactly the same either way.

Can I convert temperature the same way as length or mass?

Yes, though temperature works a little differently under the hood — Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin need an added offset, not just a multiplication, unlike length or mass conversions. You don't need to think about that difference; pick your units and type a value, and the correct formula is applied automatically.

Should I use this or a search engine's built-in converter?
