The standard way: correctly typed characters divided by 5 (the average word length), scaled to one minute. This makes scores comparable whether you type short or long words.

What counts as an error?

Each committed word is compared letter by letter against the target. Wrong or missing letters reduce your accuracy, and a word only turns green if it matches exactly.

What's a good typing speed?

The average is around 40 WPM. 60+ is solid for note-taking and essays; professional typists reach 80–100+ WPM with high accuracy.
