Remove Background

Your photo is uploaded once so the rembg model can run on server hardware, then both the original and the cut-out result are deleted automatically about an hour later. Nobody manually reviews or shares images that pass through the tool.

Photos are capped at 12 MB each, and only one photo can be processed per run. If your file is larger, compress it first with Compress Image, since that typically brings a photo well under the limit without a visible quality loss.

'General' works well for people, products, and pets, and finishes a little faster than the alternative. 'Fine edges' pays closer attention to hair, fur, and intricate outlines, which is worth the extra processing time for portraits or detailed subjects.

You get back a PNG with a transparent background in place of whatever was behind the subject in the original photo. That transparency is preserved when you place the image onto a slide, a poster, or a different backdrop, so only the subject shows through.

There's no fixed daily cap, but requests are rate-limited to a handful per minute to keep the server responsive for everyone. If you hit that limit while processing several photos in a row, wait a short moment and try the next one.

Manual erasing in a photo editor gives you full control but takes practice and time, especially around hair or fine detail. This tool uses an AI model to detect the subject automatically, so most photos are done in seconds without any manual masking — though a manual editor is still better for unusual or highly stylized cutouts.

Low contrast between the subject and its background, motion blur, or very busy backgrounds all make it harder for the model to trace a clean edge. Switching to 'Fine edges' often helps with hair and fur; for a cleaner result on tricky photos, try retaking the photo against a plainer background.
